This was my 2nd visit to Sweet Home Cafe, the first time the chicken was good and the service was awesome. This time the chicken was dry and old, the sides were ok. Mac and cheese was on point! But the cornbread (jiffy) was $3 for a slice. I ordered it before they informed me that they were not serving greens. I thought that was pricey for cornbread but oh well. 2 chicken legs, Mac and cheese, cornbread $30 w/Dessert note: carrot cake was better than the red velvet.

Lots of different food stations, cafeteria style, with great choices. We got on the Chef Ram Cole line for his Memorial Day Menu. We shared the barbecued ribs with two sides. The sweet counter offered pecan pie. The grilled and fish fry counter was busy. Even a southern agricultural station with okra, sweet potato pie & chicken was busy. The smells were wonderful as was the choices. The Sweet Home Cookbook, and some candy and jams were beautifully displayed & are for sale here. There was a drink station with soft drink choices. We shared a rib plate for $20 with 2 sides. The corn was sweet, coleslaw delicious & the ribs were a treat. One meal was enough for 2 of us. The pecan pie for dessert was a perfect ending. The cafeteria & dining room were spotless . We bused our trays after lunch & our table was quickly wiped down. There were many employees busy here.

4/5 I've been wanting to come to this museum for so many reasons but this was one of them! I've heard such great things and who doesn't like fried chicken?! Especially from the south.. namsayin. I came here with two other people so we were able to try the pulled pork, chicken, and all the sides except the seasonal salad/Veges. My takeaway is broken between cost and value. The cost of the meal is not cheap, I paid about $100 for 3 full meals and drinks. However the value was worth it. You don't pay for entrance tickets to this magnificent building so take that into account. I'm assuming you're here to appreciate, learn, and immerse yourself in the African American culture. I sure did! The cafe closes at 3:30 so make sure to start your day early at the museum. Thankfully we got there early enough to eat first and then start our tour. One thing to note is that no food or beverages can leave the cafe and we didn't see the sign until the exit so we had to chug out hot coffees at the end. Not pleasant but we understood. We appreciate protocols like this to preserve this beautiful landmark.

The cafe in the Museum of African American History was a convenient stop after seeing the museum but I thought the food was better than I was expecting. Tender fried chicken that had that desired crispy skin. The collard greens were a bit too salty for me but the corn bread was delicious, they gave it to you with butter but I was hoping for some honey as well. Would go back next time I visit.
